August is traditionally a quiet month, but we have a number of events coming up which will need everyone’s help if they are to be successful.
On September 9th we are going to hold a traditional village fete (In the Community centre and field). We will need lots of volunteers to help on the day. We will also need donations of cakes for refreshments and for sale. Jams, chutneys and pickles always sell well, so if you’ve got a glut of fruit or vegetables from the garden please think about making an extra jar or two. There are lots of variations on “bottle stalls” involving fishing rods and hooplas, so we will be welcoming donations of just about anything in a bottle. We will also be collecting prizes, and welcome any ideas for stalls, and hope lots of people will be prepared to put a poster in a window or on a fence.
In an area where we are surrounded by sheep farmers our harvest celebrations this year will be focussing on the 23rd Psalm – The Lord is my Shepherd. On Saturday 30th September we are having an all age craft afternoon in the Old School, making all sorts of sheep related items (paperweights, pompoms, button pictures, biscuits, cupcakes etc etc). Then we will be having a supper of shepherd’s pie, then in the evening we will move to church to reflect on the Psalm, and hear and sing various musical settings of it. We will be seeking donations of items for the crafts :- wool, buttons, toilet roll tubes, and if you find yourself at the seaside please look out for any pebbles that suggest sheepy possibilities to you.
